I was part of the Webster University Student Literacy Corps, which hired university students to go throughout the area and help others with their English skills. My greatest success was helping a girl go from failing her spelling tests to placing 2nd in her school's Spelling Bee. ACT Scores: Eng.: 34, Math: 31, Reading: 31, Sci.: 28 Composite: 31 AP Scores: U.S. History: 5, English Lit.: 3, Statistics: 3 Tutoring combines two of my favorite things: knowledge, and helping people; if I could do nothing but tutor (as a job), I would be a very happy man. Plus, I have had success, which gives me the drive to really pursue and improve my teaching abilities. I strive towards understanding, both on my own part and for students, and I will try every approach I can to find what works best with individuals. Coming from a music background, for example, I have found some respond better to an emotional, personal method of inhabiting the music, while others need to begin with firm technique before they can find their way in. If tutoring is for nothing else, it is to explore and find a personal means of learning and developing.

Hobbies

I am a composer-it is what I want to do in life-as well as a pianist and singer: much of my time is for music, whether creating it, recreating it, or listening. The English language fascinates me, as does language/linguistics in general, so I love reading and writing (particularly poetry). I also enjoy learning about history and, despite my aversion to the practice of it, politics. But, one of my favorite things to do is to go for a walk.
